Monster Truck Theme Party Decoration Suggestions
Wake up surprise – Having a wake up surprise on the Party day is a great way to get the special person excited nice and early. The night prior while they are asleep try hanging a few balloons and perhaps placing a gift or two into the Birthday Boy or Girls room. The will love waking up to this special surprise. If you have a light sleeper try decorating the living room so when they wake they are greeted by the surprise.
Sidewalk – create a race track on the sidewalk or driveway using black and white chalk. Make sure to check with your local council first to ensure they are agreeable to chalked sidewalks. If you live in a house with a hallway or an apartment then using black construction paper and white chalk or paint can be used to line the hallway with a racetrack entrance.
Checkered flags – Create checkered flags from Black and white construction paper. Glue to a large stick and fix into buckets of sand, tape to the wall using easy to remove tape or stick into the ground. Create a red flag for the pit-stop bathroom and a green one for the bathroom exit. This adds a little fun to the smallest room in the house. If you are extra creative having multiple small flags lining the pathway or entrance to the house is a lot of fun.
Banner – Hang a Welcome to [Birthday Child’s Name] Monster Truck Jam Birthday party banner over the front door.
Monster Truck Pictures – Hang several monster truck pictures throughout the party house. Some popular Monster Trucks are Grave Digger, Superman, Prowler, Batman and Monster Mutt. Many magazine stores also carry magazines on trucks for enthusiastic truckers. These magazines serve as a great decoration tool.
Tyres – If you ask nicely a local truck yard may be willing to lend a few used tyres to decorate the back and front yards. They may also have other truck accessories they will volunteer to lend you for the birthday.
Balloons and Streamers Galore – Balloons and Streamers are a big feature of createing the Monster Truck Jam carnival party atmosphere. Balloon traffic lights can be created by placing red, yellow and green balloons in series at the front and rear entrance to the house. Red. Black and white balloons can be hung in a big arc over the entrance to the house to create a starting line. Having red, green and yellow balloons in threes around the house are a great feature. Consider making an impressive walkway to the party area by lining your driveway or entrance to your house or apartment with bunches of balloons held down by weights. Empty plastic bottles filled with water make great weights that can be recycled later. Clear fishing line is best so Balloons look like they are free floating. Have as many Balloons and Streamers throughout the party house as required to generate a Fun Party atmosphere. Attach streamers from the center of ceiling to each corner of the room. Use two colors, in this case green and red are perfect and twist streamers for effect. Try attaching short streamers to doorways or down walls. If you have a hallway placing a large number of balloons in the hallway filled with air so they stay on the floor is a great effect, black balloons can be used to make a racing track walk.
Get into Character – Consider asking the children to dress up in the Monster Truck Theme character such as a mechanic or driver is a great way to help with the Party fun. Children will love it if you get into character also.
Monster Truck Theme Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities
Monster Truck Play Area – If you have a back yard suitable for this activity or a sand pit consider creating a Monster Truck track the children can play in when they arrive at the party. Purchase several truck toys for the children to play with and consider asking guests to bring a toy also so there is plenty to go around.
Face Paint Tattoos – Nothing beats the ease of removable tattoos but should they be unavailable face paint is a great tattoo alternative. Paint a Monster Truck character, Traffic lights, Tyre, Checkered Flag or other truck item onto the arm of each Child. If you are not a great artist don’t worry kids have great imaginations and a general theme will work. You will need bright colors yellows, greens, blues, reds, blacks and white and face paint brushes but you can choose colors to suit. Party Tip – Keep some clean up supplies on hand paper towels, water and makeup remover. Lay the face painting area with newspaper to collect any spills. Be sure to use washable face paints. Older children and volunteers may like to help with face paining. Have older children practice before the party. Blacklight crayons – can be used instead of face paint.
Monster Truck Shirts – On arrival provide the child with an appropriately sized white shirt and ask then to draw a monster truck on the front or back. This is a great favor for the kids to take home at the end of the party.
Monster Truck Art – On arrival provide the child with a pre-cut out monster truck and ask them to color to suit. A great twist on this activity is to cut out a giant monster truck shape from cardboard and cut into small pieces, have each child color one piece and reform the truck on a wall using blue tack or easily removed tape. The children will find this hilarious and it makes for a great decoration.
Monster Truck Coloring Pages – Print of Monster Truck coloring templates from the internet and have the kids color them in on arrival. Use to decorate the house.
Party Tip – Suggest to parents that their kids bring a spare set of cloths and wear cloths ok to get dirty as a Monster Truck Theme Party is all about getting down and dirty.

Monster Truck Theme Party Games
Tyre Toss – Stack up a few old tires and have the guests attempt to toss in tennis or Ping-Pong balls have an area marked out about 2m away from the tyres. Ask the players to line up the object of the game is to get as many balls into the tyres as possible. The distance may need to be varied depending on the skill set of the children. Fun Variations – have two teams, place the stacked tyres in a circle set out with rope or string. All children stand on the outside of the string and must not step inside. Provide all players on each team with Tennis or Ping-Pong balls. They must get as many into their tyre stack as they can in a set time e.g. 2 minutes. This is a lot of fun as balls hit each other as multiple children try throw their balls at once. Consider also having only one tyre stack and two teams, each using different colored balls. The team with the most in the tyre stack after a period of time wins.
Monster Truck Oil Transfer – First make a dark colored jelly or mouse in a bucket. To play the game each child scoops up some jelly and runs an obstacle course with their scoop of jelly to fill a cup at the other end of the course. Explain to the children that they must hold the spoon and jelly in one hand. Create an obstacle course but be careful to make sure children can actually complete the course, be a little creative, have the children run around a tree three times, walk along a narrow board, limbo under a stick placed between two chairs, hop in a sack for a bit. When they drop their jelly return to the start to give the next child a go. The first team to fill their cup wins. Fun Variations – Use dirt or mud instead of jelly or mouse.
Radiator Fluid Relay - This is a fun relay and kids love it … careful, they can get wet! You will need two large tubs filled with water and two smaller containers that are equal in size. Color the water with green food coloring for extra effect. The idea is to get water from the larger containers, run across an area (no more than 10 meters) and put the water into the smaller containers. The team that fills their container first wins. There are several ways to do this – you can transfer the water using spoons, sponges or, our personal favorite, plastic cups with a few holes punched in the bottom (you may want to check that all the water does not run out too fast or the smaller container will never get filled). Divide the guests into two teams and have them line up behind one another. One by one they take their “water carrier” and dip it into the big bucket – run across the play area and then put the water into the smaller container. Then they run back and hand off to the next player on their team. This continues until one team has filled their water container to the top – or to a per-determined mark. The Radiator Fluid Relay Game is also great for sending the Children home from the Party nice and worn out for their parents. Party Tip – Children will get wet; consider asking parents to make sure their children pack an extra change of cloths in back packs just in case. Food coloring can dye cloths as well.
Red Light Green Light – Using a large play area have the children line up at one end. A mediator you says green light, the children must hop as fast as they can to the other end, when the mediator says red light they must freeze on one leg. If they fall over they have to return to the start. Party Tip – for younger children walking fast and freezing is challenging enough and can replace hopping. If you say red light and younger children don’t stop moving quickly they are sent back to the start line. The first player to reach the finish line wins.
Muddy Dip - Fill a large container with mud and hide an appropriate number of small objects, such as a ping-pong ball inside. Each child can collect a ping pong ball and when found exchange for a gift or candy. They will love getting dirty.
Monster Truck Relay - Cut four monster trucks from cardboard. Consider printing Monster Trucks from the internet and glue onto card cutting out the shapes. Divide the Monster Truck Birthday Party guests into two equal teams and give the first person in each line two of the Monster Trucks. Place a chair or object about 6 to 8m away from a start line. Line the children up and explain that the Monster Trucks become the only thing they can step on as they travel from the front of the line, around a chair and back to the line again. The game starts, on your direction, “go”, as first two players on each team step with one foot onto one Monster Truck stepping stone with one leg. Then they put a second Monster Truck stepping stone in front of them and step with another leg on it. When the first player from each team crosses the finish line, he or she passes the Monster Truck stepping stones to the next player in line. The team that finishes the course first wins. Party Tip – It is best to keep your course short, but adjust the length of the course based on the kids’ age and ability. You may want to handicap the first team that wins so all teams have a chance to win. Showing the kids what to do is the easiest way to explain this game.
Bind Drivers Bluff - Define a safe play area and blindfold the Birthday Child and spin them around three times. Have the other children move around the play area making truck noises. When a child is tagged they become the blind driver and the game starts again. Party Tip – Very young children may not want to be blindfolded, in this case having them close their eyes is a suitable alternative.
Catch the Spectator in the Cue – This is a fun tag game for when you are outside or have plenty of space to run. Guests will line up and hold hands. They can not let go of each other’s hands for any reason. The first person in line (the head) tries to tag the last person in line (the spectator). When the first person has tagged the Spectator then the “Spectator” comes to the front of the line and becomes the “tagger”. Continue until everyone has had a chance to catch the Spectator.
Truck Truck Car – Children sit in a circle on the floor. The birthday child (patter) starts by walking around the outside of the circle and patting the head of each child. Every time they pat a head they call out “Truck”. Then they choose one person to be the Car and yell “CAR!” when they pat their head. The “patter” then runs clockwise around the circle and tries to sit down in the place of the Car before they are tagged. If the Car tags the patter then the Car sits back down and the patter starts again. If the Car doesn’t tag the patter then the Car becomes the patter and the game starts again.
Monster Truck Puzzler – This game emphasizes team work. Before the party print out Monster Trucks from the internet, having two of each. Affix each picture onto some construction paper for strength and cut the pictures into 2 to 4 puzzle pieces. Hide the pieces around the Party house. Ask the children to find one puzzle piece and then find the players with the matching piece’s. Once they achieve this goal they get a prize. Party Tip – Younger Children may seek guidance if they can’t find a piece of the puzzle, it’s a good idea to keep a list of where you hid the pieces just in case. If any parts of the house are off limits to the children make sure to tell them before the game starts and perhaps post a sign on the door as a reminder.
Pin the Wheel on the Monster Truck – A variation of Pin the tail on the Donkey and very popular at all children’s parties. Print a picture of a Monster Truck from the internet; this does not have to be a big picture, color for effect. Print or make several small Tryck Wheels. Glue onto Cardboard for strength. Write each Childs name on one side and use double sided tape on the other. Use a cloth to blindfold the players, one at a time. Spin them gently three times and “steer” them in the correct direction to the game board. Other players can shout out the board direction for extra party fun. The object of the game is to stick the wheel near the wheel on the Monster Truck shown on the poster. The players whose wheel is nearest wins. Party Tip - Younger children may not want to be blindfolded so you may want to let them know they can just close their eyes.
Fair Evader Catch – Divide the children into two equal teams. Have the teams form two lines about 10 meters apart from each other. Instruct the teams to stand shoulder-to-shoulder, holding hands and facing the opposing team. Starting at the start of each line and taking turns each person calls out “Fair Evader, Fair Evader, send [child’s name] right over!” The chosen player then runs toward the calling team and tries to break through the line of arms and linked hands. If the player is successful, he or she gets to pick a member of the opposing team to take back to his or her team. If the player is unsuccessful in breaking through the line, he or she joins the opposing team. After a designated period of time, the team with the most players wins.
Spot Prizes – To add a little extra fun offer spot prizes to the children for Best Team Player, Most Infectious Giggle, or Biggest Smile etc. Make sure that each child gets one spot prize. It’s best to reward younger children first and older children latter in the day. A way to create hidden spot prizes is to place a small sticker or glue a picture of a Monster Mania character to the bottom of the Party Dinner Plates and the one with the picture wins a big candy bar.
Monster Truck and Car – One child is chosen to be the Monster Truck and one child is chosen to become the Car. All the other children form a circle, holding hands, with the Car inside and Monster Truck outside. The children in the circle move around while calling out the following rhyme:
“What time is it?”
“Just struck nine.”
“Is the monster truck home?”
“He’s about to dine.”
When the rhyme stops, the children stop moving and the Monster Truck starts to chase the Car, weaving in and out of the ring of children to do so. Variation – To make the game more challenging pass a rule that the Monster Truck must follow the Cars path. When the Monster Truck catches the Car he/she can enjoy pretending to “crush” him/her. The Monster Truck becomes the car and one child from the circle becomes the Monster Truck. The children in the circle can keep moving around and raise and lower their joined arms, making the game more challenging.
Watch some Monster Truck Jam Episodes – At the end of the Monster Truck Birthday Party, let the kids watch an episode or two of the Monster Truck Jam TV show. The children will be tired and some will be waiting for their rides so it’s a perfect activity to occupy them. Cookies and Popcorn are a great way to keep the kids occupied while they watch a show. To make simple green popcorn as green food coloring to the corn prior to popping.
Party Tip – Having signs naming the activities make it easier for you and the children. More hands make light work, having older children and other parents help will make your Awesome Party more Fun for you. Having prizes for all children is the way to go, younger children will try their best to achieve positive results but may not be at the same level rewarding the effort not the outcome is best and will lead to a much more enjoyable party.
Monster Truck Theme Party Cakes
Monster Truck Arena Cake – Using a regular cake with chocolate icing crumble several chocolate cookies over the cake, and in a pile to make a mud obstacle. Place a monster truck toy on top as a centre piece. The same theme can be applied to any Truck or construction party. If you don’t have a monster truck try toy dump trucks, bulldozers, cement trucks and excavators placed to look like they are working at moving around the mud. Chocolate chips add a great effect as do licorice logs.
Monster Cup Cakes – Using cupcakes in your favorite flavor cover with chocolate icing and crumble several chocolate cookies over the cup cakes. Make small checkered flags out of paper and glue or tape to tooth picks. Place one checkered flag in each cup cake.
